Creating Your First Invoice

Learn how to create professional, DGI-compliant invoices in Hisab. This comprehensive guide covers everything from adding items to sending the final invoice.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

Step 1: Start a New Invoice

There are two ways to create an invoice:

  1. From Dashboard: Click "New Invoice" button
  2. From Invoices: Go to Invoices > Click "New Invoice"

Note: New invoices start as drafts - you can edit them freely until you finalize.

Step 2: Select a Customer

  1. Click the Customer dropdown
  2. Search by name or ICE number
  3. Select your customer
  4. Customer details auto-populate (address, ICE)

Don't have the customer yet? Click "Add New Customer" to create one inline.

Step 3: Set Invoice Details

Step 4: Add Line Items

Click "Add Item" to add products or services:

For Each Item:

  1. Description: What you're billing for
    • Example: "Website Development - Phase 1"
  2. Quantity: Number of units
  3. Unit Price: Price per unit in MAD
  4. Tax Rate: Select from Morocco's tax rates

Morocco VAT Rates

RateWhen to Use
20%Standard rate - most services and goods

7%Basic necessities, food products
0%Exports, exempt items

Line Item Example

Description: Monthly Consulting Services - December 2024
Quantity: 10 (hours)
Unit Price: 500 MAD
Tax Rate: 20%

Subtotal: 5,000 MAD
Tax: 1,000 MAD
Line Total: 6,000 MAD

Step 5: Add More Items (Optional)

  • Click "Add Item" for each additional product/service
  • Drag and drop to reorder items
  • Click the trash icon to remove items

Step 6: Apply Discount (Optional)

  1. Click "Add Discount"
  2. Choose type:
    • Percentage: e.g., 10% off total
    • Fixed Amount: e.g., 500 MAD off
  3. Enter the value

Discount is applied to the subtotal before tax.

Step 7: Add Notes

Customer Notes

Visible on the invoice:

  • Payment instructions
  • Thank you message
  • Special terms

Internal Notes

Only visible to your team:

  • Project details
  • Follow-up reminders
  • Communication history

Step 8: Preview

  1. Click "Preview"
  2. Review the PDF layout
  3. Check all information:
    • Customer details correct?
    • Line items accurate?
    • Totals match?
    • Tax rates appropriate?

The invoice shows in bilingual format (French/Arabic).

Step 9: Save as Draft

Click "Create Invoice" to save as draft.

As a draft:

  • No invoice number assigned yet
  • Fully editable
  • Not visible to customer
  • Won't appear in reports

Step 10: Next Steps

After saving, you can:

  • Finalize the invoice to lock it
  • Edit if needed
  • Duplicate for similar orders
  • Delete if created by mistake

Invoice Totals Explained

Subtotal:      10,000.00 MAD  (sum of line items before tax)
Discount:        -500.00 MAD  (if applied)
Net Subtotal:   9,500.00 MAD
Tax (20%):      1,900.00 MAD

Total:         11,400.00 MAD

  1. Use Templates: Save time with invoice templates
  2. Recurring Billing: Set up recurring invoices for subscriptions
  3. Quick Duplicate: Duplicate existing invoices for similar orders
  4. Keyboard Shortcuts: Press N from dashboard to start new invoice

Common Questions

Can I edit after creating? Yes, drafts are fully editable. After finalizing, you cannot edit amounts.

What if I make a mistake? For draft invoices, just edit. For finalized invoices, use a credit note.

How do I add multiple tax rates? Each line item can have its own tax rate.
